Deer Hunter 3
The Legend Continues

  • You've never had a more powerful cache of firearms or buck-bustin' hunting gear, and it's never been brought to you with such realism. Travel the expansive fields, forests, bluffs and mountains of Utah and Missouri on an individual pre-season scouting trip, or engage in a multi-player expedition with your on-line buddies. Then return for season opener on the ultimate quest for the buck of a lifetime.

Deer Hunter 3 features both whitetail and mule deer, but that's not all. Watch the virtual world come alive with many types of animals including birds such as quail, pheasant, woodcock and grouse. Rabbit, squirrel, bees and dragonfly's can also be seen. If you're near the water keep and eye out for fish, frogs, turtles and even the occasional crayfish! This is virtual hunting, and it's as real as it gets.

Hunting Strategies
  • Deer are very perceptive and have much better developed senses than humans. As soon as a deer thinks it is in danger, it will bolt and be out of range. Deer spook very easily, and Big bucks spook even easier – that’s why they lived long enough to become big!

A deer may not notice a hunter that is standing right in front of it, but will notice any unnatural movement that occurs anywhere not directly behind it, like raising your weapon. The best way to get close to a deer is to lure it close to you, the only time you can safely approach a deer is if you are directly behind it and downwind from it. If you approach a deer from upwind, you will almost certainly scare it off. Wearing the cover scent helps, but is not failsafe. Look for signs of traffic, then stake out and start using your attractant items (rattle, calls, scents, or decoy.) Use the tree stand to get a better view, or crouch down to get a better shot.

When you try to attract the deer with your equipment, make sure you use it realistically! If you use a rut call in pre-rut season, it might scare the deer off. Also if you use them in an irregular fashion, like using the doe bleat call 8 times in rapid succession the deer will recognize that it is not real. The main idea is to use each tool together, but never too much of one specific tool. When using the hot doe attractant scent, the deer will smell the scent when they are downwind of you, then circle around to approach from upwind. So make sure you cover your scent and are facing the right direction so the deer will not see any movement to scare it off.
