Overdrive Processors

If you know the subject and just want to check price and availability on overdrive processors, CLICK HERE.

Some 486, Pentium and Pentium Pro computers are capable of being upgraded in terms of CPU speed through upgrade processors called Overdrive Processors or CPU Upgrade Kits. The various makes of overdrive processors are:

  1. Intel 80486 DX4-100 ODP Overdrive Processor:
This overdrive processor is for 486 computers with a vacant CPU socket on their motherboard called the overdrive socket. This overdrive socket is in addition to the regular CPU socket that has the existing CPU. Such computers usually have the sticker overdrive ready affixed to it. If not sure, check your motherboard to see if it has an overdrive socket. Compared to the ODPR version of the overdrive processor, the ODP has an extra pin. This extra pin in the overdrive processor disconnects the original CPU. The Intel DX4-100 ODP raises the speed of the CPU to 100MHz.

  2. Intel 80486 DX4-100 ODPR Overdrive Processor.
The DX4-100 ODPR processor is the same as the first one but is meant for those 486 computer systems that don't have the overdrive socket. Unlike an ODP, you need to remove the original slower CPU from its socket and plop in this new one. The 'R' in ODPR stands for remove, that is, remove the original CPU and install this one in its place. The Intel DX4-100 ODPR raises the speed of the CPU to 100MHz.

  3. Intel PODP5V83 Overdrive Processor.
This overdrive processor works in those motherboards that have a vacant overdrive socket, like in (1) above. If you don't have an overdrive processor, the PODP5V83 will not work for you. It raises the speed to the level of a Pentium running at 83MHz which in performance terms is a little better than the DX4-100 mentioned above.

  4. Intel PODP5V133 Overdrive. Upgrades a Pentium 60 or a Pentium 66 to a Pentium 133.

  5. Intel PODPMT66X200 MMX Overdrive. If you have a Pentium 75, it will raise your speed to 150. Pentium 90, 120 and 150 will go up to 180MHz. Pentium 100, 133 and 166 will go up to 200Mhz MMX. 20 day warranty. Before ordering, you might want to check with your computer manufacturer if this overdrive cpu is compatible with your system.

  6. Intel UBPODP66X333 Overdrive. This overdrive is for those who have a Pentium Pro Processor. It raises the speed of a Pentium Pro 150 and 180 system to 300Mhz and that of a Pentium Pro 166 and 200 to 333Mhz.

  7. PL-586/133 cpu upgrade kit. Upgrades your 486SX/DX/DX2 to 586-133. CPU included.
This option works like the Intel DX4-100 ODPR. It is for those motherboards that don't have an overdrive socket. You remove the original CPU and install the PL-586/133. It can raise the speed of your system (depending upon the motherboard) to 133MHz.

  8. Turbo Chip 133 cpu upgrade kit.
Similar to (4) above but made by Kingston Technologies.  To find out more about how the Turbo Chip 133 can improve system performance, CLICK HERE.

  9. PL-54CMMX cpu upgrade kit. Upgrades your Intel Pentium 60 or 66 (socket 4). This kit enables you to install an Intel Pentium 166, 200 or 233MMX cpu.

  10. PL-OD54C cpu upgrade kit. Upgrades your Intel Pentium 75/90/100/120/133 (socket 5). This kit enables you to install an Intel Pentium 150, 166 or 200 cpu.

  11. PL-PRO/MMX cpu upgrade kit. Upgrades your Intel Pentium 75/90/100/120/133 (socket 5). This kit enables you to install cpu's / processors like an Intel Pentium 150, 166 or 200, Intel Pentium MMX 166/200/233, AMD K6 & K6-2 233/266/300/333/350, CYRIX/IBM 6x86MX & MII 266/300/333, CYRIX/IBM 6x86 166/200, IDT Winchip-2 240/266/300.

  12. PL-K6-III CPU adapter.  Upgrades your Pentium 75~233 (socket 5 and socket 7). This kit enables you to install a Pentium 150, 166 or 200, Intel Pentium MMX 166/200/233, AMD K6 & K6-2 with 3D Now 233/266/300/333/350/366/400/450 and AMD K6-III with 3D Now 400/450, Cyrix / IBM 6x86MX & MII 266/300/333, Cyrix / IBM 6x86 166/200, IDT Winchip-2 240/266/300. CPU not included. 90 days warranty. You remove your current cpu, install this kit and a new compatible cpu and you are up an running at a higher speed. Cost effective and convenient.
