The Silicom DoubleUSB 32-bit CardBus PC Card is a Universal Serial Bus (USB) host controller. It provides a high-performance vehicle for attaching USB-based scanners, joysticks, printers, modems, and many other USB devices to a CardBus-compliant portable computer. The DoubleUSB PC Card brings USB capabilities to portable computers that otherwise would not be able to use USB devices. 

The DoubleUSB PC Card is especially designed for Windows 98 environment. 

Universal Serial Bus (USB)

Universal Serial Bus is a peripheral bus standard developed by PC and Telecom leaders such as Compaq, DEC, IBM, Intel, Microsoft, NEC, and Northern Telecom. 

USB refers to the way that peripheral devices connect to - and communicate with - a computer. Typically, there are several connectors on the back of a computer, each of which accepts a specific kind of device connector and cable. As a result, a maze of connectors and cables - often confusing and inconvenient - may be found behind a computer with a full range of peripheral attachments. 

USB eliminates the need for this variety of connectors and cables by using a single standard type of connector and cable for each peripheral device. In addition, most USB devices come with USB ports that let you daisy-chain one USB peripheral to another, reducing the number of devices directly connected to the computer. 

Computers equipped with USB allow peripherals to be automatically configured as soon as they are connected. Without the need to reboot or run Setup, USB brings true out-of-the-box Plug and Play to computer peripherals such as scanners, printers, telephones, cameras, and keyboards. 

USB features a high throughput I/O transfer rate of 12Mbit/sec, and allows up to 127 peripheral devices to run simultaneously on one computer.
